Cairokee, TUL8TE and Amr Diab accounted for 76.1 per cent of the gross decline among confirmed African-origin artists on Egypt’s own Spotify chart between 13 August and 13 September 2026, and for 77.6 per cent of the same kind of decline measured independently between two weekday-matched Mondays, 17 August and 7 September. Two separately built comparisons, on different date pairs and different window lengths, name the same three artists as the source of most of the fall.

The same three names, twice#

This desk’s roster places 24 lead artists as African-origin on Egypt’s Spotify daily Top 200 across the two calendar dates. Their combined streams fell from 3,495,133 on 13 August to 2,390,280 on 13 September, a net drop of 1,104,853 streams. Seventeen of the 24 lost ground and seven gained; the gross decline among the losers, 1,201,868 streams, is larger than the net figure because the gainers offset part of it. Cairokee alone lost 496,320 streams, 41.3 per cent of that gross decline. Add TUL8TE, down 221,620, and Amr Diab, down 197,086, and three artists account for 915,026 of the 1,201,868 streams Egypt’s confirmed-African cohort lost, 76.1 per cent.

A two-date comparison a month apart cannot rule out a weekday artefact, so this desk built the same measurement a second way, choosing its two dates from the four Mondays this desk has collected, 17 and 24 and 31 August and 7 September, and comparing only the first and the last so the gap is filled entirely by whole weeks. On that comparison, the tracked cohort’s streams fell from 3,121,442 to 2,572,681, a net drop of 548,761, smaller in both absolute and percentage terms than the calendar-date comparison because the window is ten days shorter. The concentration is not smaller. Cairokee again leads, down 305,689 streams, 46.4 per cent of that window’s gross decline of 658,910. Amr Diab is down 111,880 and TUL8TE down 93,553; the same three artists, in a different order, account for 511,122 streams, 77.6 per cent.

Everyone else in both tables is a much smaller story, and some of it runs the other way. Sherine gained 15,657 to 23,779 streams depending on the window measured, Hamo Bika gained 24,531 on the Monday comparison, and three artists absent on the earlier date in each window, Afroto, Mohamed Ramadan and Molotof, entered the chart between the two collections. None of the seven gainers in either window comes close to offsetting Cairokee alone. This is not a market getting uniformly less African. It is three specific catalogues pulling back hard while a longer tail holds roughly flat or grows.

The counter-reading#

Both comparisons carry the same structural risk: a handful of large rows can make a small population look more uniform in its direction than it is. This desk ran its standard leave-one-out check on the column each headline number rests on.

Drop Cairokee alone from either window and the gross decline falls by 41.3 to 46.4 per cent by definition, since removing one row from a sum removes exactly its own share. Drop the top three and both windows fall by more than three-quarters, 76.13 and 77.57 per cent. This is not a caveat that quietly undermines the finding, it restates it: the decline genuinely is concentrated in three names, in both independently built windows, and the robustness table is the same evidence as the headline read from the other direction.

A second check concerns classification. Four of the smaller artists in these tables, Essam Sasa, Ahmed Moza, Coolpix and Lege-Cy, were flagged by this desk’s anomaly check as identified by name search rather than by a registry record linked to their exact Spotify profile, and each was confirmed kept as classified after this desk checked that the artist charts only on Egypt’s own chart. None of the three artists driving the headline finding, Cairokee, TUL8TE or Amr Diab, was flagged. The concentration this piece reports does not depend on any row this desk’s own process has marked as uncertain.

The limits#

This measures only the cohort this desk’s roster currently places as African-origin. A companion piece published on 13 September showed that Egypt’s overall “share African” figure fell largely because of artists the registry cannot place at all, not because of movement among artists it can place, so the decline described here is a real pattern inside a narrower and more confidently identified group, not the explanation for that separate finding. The two comparisons in this piece use different window lengths, 31 days against 21, so their net percentage falls are not directly comparable to each other; only the share the top three hold of each window’s own gross decline is. Chart streams are a sample of consumption inside Egypt’s daily Top 200 on the collection dates, not a full accounting of streaming in Egypt, and an artist leaving this table can mean a release aged out of the chart, a reshuffle, or a collection gap this desk’s snapshots cannot distinguish. No cause is claimed for any individual artist’s movement.

What this means for an Egyptian label or manager#

Egypt’s African-origin chart presence, on this measure, is a small number of large catalogues away from moving hard in either direction. A label whose roster does not include Cairokee, TUL8TE or Amr Diab is not exposed to the swing this piece reports, and the artists actually gaining ground in both windows, Sherine, Hamo Bika, and new entrants including Mohamed Ramadan, are a more useful comparison set for a mid-sized Egyptian act than the aggregate “Egypt’s chart is less African” framing supports. Anyone using this desk’s own market-level percentages, or building a similar dashboard from raw chart data, should check whether a market-wide swing is actually three catalogues before reading it as a market.
