Afrobeats Wire corrects what it gets wrong. This page explains how to tell us about an error and what we do about it.
Reporting an error
Email corrections@afrobeatswire.com with the URL of the page, the passage or figure you are questioning, and what you believe the correct position is. A source we can check is the single most useful thing you can send.
What we do
- We check the claim against the sources the piece was built on.
- If it is wrong, we fix it and say on the page what was changed and when.
- If it is right, we tell you why and leave the page alone.
- If it cannot be settled either way, we say that in the piece rather than leave it unmarked.
We do not quietly delete an article to make a mistake go away.
How changes are labelled
- Correction means a fact was wrong and is now right.
- Clarification means the facts were right but the wording could reasonably have been read the wrong way.
- Update means the story moved on after publication and the page now reflects that.
Typographical fixes that change nothing about the meaning are made without a note.
Datasets
Every dataset behind a Data story carries its source, its method, the number of rows and the date it was retrieved, and can be downloaded as CSV or JSON so the calculation can be repeated. If a dataset turns out to be wrong, we correct the dataset itself, note the change, and correct any story that relied on it.
Right of reply
If you are named in a piece and believe it treats you unfairly, write to corrections@afrobeatswire.com. Where a response is warranted we will carry it.
