South Africa’s Dark Horse Releases Soulful Tribute Album Flora Ntlemo

South African house artist Dark Horse has released Flora Ntlemo, a tribute album to his late grandmother.

South African house music artist Dark Horse has released Flora Ntlemo, an album named after his late grandmother.

The record is built from personal memories, family values and emotional reflection, arranged as a soulful house project. The values his grandmother passed down, love, faith and patience, sit at the centre of the record. Dark Horse lets the music carry the emotion instead of leaning on conventional nostalgia.

Title track and production

The title track, “Flora Ntlemo,” is a violin-led piece that sets the album’s reflective tone. Its violin lines sit inside Dark Horse’s deep house production, bringing warmth without losing the restrained energy of his style.

Organic African percussion is layered with polished electronic production throughout the record. The arrangements unfold slowly, giving rhythms, melodies and guest contributions space to develop.

Collaborators and catalogue

The album includes contributions from C-Black, Soullab, Dav Risen, KG Sunset and others, each placed within the project’s wider musical direction.

Flora Ntlemo adds to a catalogue that has placed Dark Horse within South Africa’s house music scene. Earlier releases include Somnyama, along with collaborations such as “Love, Peace & Happiness” with Kabza De Small and Artwork Sounds, and “Just Believe” with Kelvin Momo.

Outside his recordings, Dark Horse is a resident DJ on Radio 2000 and has performed at house music events across South Africa.
