Sewasew Multimedia

Sewasew Multimedia is an Ethiopian music streaming platform and record label operating from Addis Ababa. It is a registered brand of 2F Capital, whose own corporate history states that the company has been “developing and bundling technologies to reinvent the entertainment industry through our registered brand ‘Sewasew Multimedia’ streaming platform”.

Sewasew runs two distinct businesses. The first is the consumer streaming service, whose iOS listing names 2F Capital . LLC as seller and carries the copyright line “© 2022 2F Capital”. The second is a recording operation: Sewasew’s head of music, Habtu Negash, told an Ethiopian newspaper in May 2023 that the company is “not only a media streaming application but also a recording label”, that the label “acquires and develops content by purchasing albums”, and that more than a hundred artists had signed with it. He named Teddy Afro, Abenet Agonafir and Aster Awoke among long-established artists with music on the service, and said Sewasew had spent 250 million birr on Aster Awoke’s album Soba.

On 16 November 2023 Universal Music Group announced a licensing agreement under which Sewasew would license and market UMG’s catalogue in Ethiopia, covering Def Jam, Interscope, Island, Motown, Republic and Virgin alongside UMG’s African divisions. It was UMG’s first agreement in the Ethiopian market. The Sewasew app is powered by the Australian business-to-business streaming technology firm Tuned Global.

In April 2026 Teddy Afro’s management and Sewasew both confirmed that the artist’s contract with the company had been terminated by mutual agreement, with 33 million birr returned to Sewasew against an original 25 million birr advance.
