Primary document is the Sony Music Publishing Nigeria press release carried on the Record of the Day press-release platform, fetched 22 October 2026, HTTP 200. The agreement's own terms, including territory, the catalogue-and-future-works scope and all three quotes, are taken directly from that release; no other outlet's report of the same signing was found as of this writing. The master-side credit chain is read independently from two rights registries, the Apple iTunes Search API for the artist LADIPOE and the Deezer album search and album-detail endpoints, both HTTP 200 on 22 October 2026, cross-checked on UPC. The prior-relationship context (songwriting camps, roster listing) is read from trade coverage dated January 2023 and December 2023, both fetched 22 October 2026. The Universal Music Group majority stake in Mavin Global is drawn from this desk's own existing record. Negative findings on BMI repertoire search and Instagram access are recorded in the body. · Rights registry: phonographic copyright lines for LADIPOE's discography, read 22 October 2026

Read this before citing: This record documents a publishing signing, sourced to the announcing party's own press release, and separately documents a master-recording credit chain that the announcement does not mention and that this record does not claim the announcement changes. The two are reported side by side because both bear on the same artist's catalogue, not because one is evidence about the other. The December 2023 roster listing and the January 2023 and January 2025 songwriting camp coverage establish that Sony Music Publishing's West Africa operation and LADIPOE had a prior relationship; they do not establish a prior contract, and this record does not call the 22 October announcement his first Sony signing or contradict the press release's framing of it as a new deal, only note what the camps and the roster page already showed. LADIPOE's publisher of record, if any, before 22 October 2026 could not be established, because the BMI public repertoire search returned no match for his name, Nigeria's collecting-society landscape has been unsettled since COSON's operating licence was revoked in May 2019, and Instagram returned a rate-limit response rather than post history for Sony Music Publishing's West Africa account. The term and consideration of this agreement are not disclosed by either party, and this record does not estimate them.

On 22 October 2026 Sony Music Publishing Nigeria announced a worldwide exclusive publishing agreement with Oladipo Eso, the Lagos rapper and songwriter who performs as LADIPOE, covering his entire catalogue and everything he writes from this point forward. The announcement names no company on his side and discloses no consideration. It also says nothing at all about the masters he has recorded since 2017, which on the evidence of two rights registries still carry the name of a different company entirely.

The quotes are on the record. LADIPOE: “REVIVAL represents a new chapter for me, both creatively and personally… I’ve always believed that African songwriting and lyricism can resonate far beyond where it was created without losing what makes it ours, and I’m excited to have Sony Music Publishing as a partner for this next chapter.” Uzor Daniel, Director of A&R and Operations at Sony Music Publishing Nigeria: “The signing of LADIPOE is part of our continued commitment… to partner with and invest in exceptional African songwriters and artists whose creativity can transcend borders.” His manager, Emmanuel Egwere, framed the deal around reach rather than money: “This partnership with Sony Music Publishing gives Lifelines greater reach and creates new opportunities for his songwriting.”

What the agreement covers, and what it plainly does not

This is a publishing signing, in the narrow sense that term carries in the industry: the right to administer, collect and exploit the compositions, not the sound recordings. The announcement states the agreement is worldwide and exclusive and that it covers “all catalogue and future works written by” LADIPOE. It does not state a term, a royalty split, an advance, or whether the underlying structure is an administration mandate or an assignment of copyright, and this record does not guess at any of them. Not disclosed is a publishable fact on this beat, not a gap to paper over.

Nowhere in the announcement does the word “masters” appear, and nowhere does the name Mavin appear. That silence is the second half of this story, because LADIPOE’s recordings are not ownerless, and the registries say clearly whose name sits on them.

The masters, read from the credit lines

LADIPOE was signed to Mavin Records on 28 February 2017 as the label’s first rapper, and the phonographic copyright lines on his releases since then are consistent with that signing having held. Reading the Apple Music catalogue and cross-checking against Deezer’s album objects by UPC: “Man Already” (18 July 2017) carries the line “℗ MAVIN RECORDS”. “Lemme Know” (28 August 2019) carries the same label credit. From “Know You” featuring Simi (9 April 2020) onward, the credit changes form but not substance, reading “℗ Mavin Global Holdings Ltd”: “Feeling” featuring Buju (7 May 2021), “Big Energy” (10 June 2022), “Guy Man” (9 June 2023), “SHUT IT DOWN” (11 October 2023), the Lifelines Live Session EP (21 June 2024) and “Compose” (26 September 2024) all carry that credit. The REVIVAL album itself, 16 tracks released 17 July 2026 on Deezer’s album object 1016456441, carries the label “Mavin Global Holdings Ltd” against UPC 600574242419, three months before the publishing announcement.

Some individual features on his catalogue carry other owners where a collaborator’s camp supplied the master: “E No Fit Be Me” credits Def Jam Recordings, two 2018 singles with Funbi credit Jungle Entertainment Ventures, and “Party Scatter” (29 May 2026) credits The Chibyverse under ONErpm distribution. None of those change the picture for his own body of work as Mavin’s artist, which this record treats separately from his features.

Mavin Global Holdings itself is not independent. Universal Music Group took a majority stake in Mavin Global in 2024, a transaction this desk has already recorded. That means the company named on LADIPOE’s masters sits inside Universal’s structure, while the company just named on his songs is Sony’s. Two majors now sit on opposite sides of the same catalogue, each holding a different asset, and the announcement that prompted this record addresses only one of them.

A prior relationship this record cannot resolve into a prior contract

Sony Music Publishing’s West Africa operation, run from Lagos since Godwin Tom’s appointment as managing director in August 2022, has had LADIPOE in its orbit before this announcement. A trade report on the company’s first West Africa songwriting camp, held in January 2023 and led by the company’s head of A&R Wale Davies, named Ladipoe among the writers in the room alongside Tems, Lojay and GuiltyBeatz. A second camp ran in January 2025. Separately, a roster listing published in December 2023 already placed “Ladipoe” among the writers the company names in West Africa, in the same breath as Wizkid and Sarkodie.

None of that is a publishing contract, and this record does not treat it as one. A songwriting camp is an invitation to a room, not a signature, and a name on a roster page is a claim by the publisher rather than a filed agreement. But it does mean the 22 October announcement is not the first contact between these two parties, and describing it purely as a new signing, which is how the press release frames it, leaves out a relationship this desk can document going back to at least December 2023. Who, if anyone, held LADIPOE’s publishing between that date and this signing could not be established. The BMI public repertoire search returned no result for his name. The collecting society that would ordinarily answer this for a Nigerian writer, COSON, had its operating licence revoked by the Nigerian Copyright Commission in May 2019, and its successor body’s repertoire is not searchable from outside Nigeria. Instagram, the platform SMP’s West Africa page uses for most of its signing announcements, returned a rate-limit response rather than its post history. The absence of an answer here is a limit on what this desk could check, not a finding that no prior publisher exists.

What this means for artists

The practical read for any African songwriter watching this deal is narrower than the headline. A worldwide exclusive publishing signing with a major is a real and valuable thing: it typically brings synch placements, cross-territory collection infrastructure and a bigger room for co-writes than an independent administrator can offer, and LADIPOE’s own quote about reach rather than money is consistent with that being the pitch. But it is one asset, not the whole of an artist’s business. His masters did not move, are not reported to have moved, and remain with the company that has owned them since 2017, now itself majority-owned by a different major. An artist taking a similar meeting should ask, specifically, which asset is on the table: the song, the recording, or both, and should expect a term and a number before signing, neither of which this announcement discloses and neither of which should be assumed favourable simply because a major’s name is attached.

What could not be established

The term of the agreement, its consideration, and whether it is structured as an administration mandate or an assignment of copyright: not stated anywhere read for this record. LADIPOE’s publisher of record, if any, before 22 October 2026: not established, for the reasons given above. Whether the relationship documented at the 2023 and 2025 songwriting camps and on the December 2023 roster listing constituted any kind of agreement, formal or informal, prior to this signing: not established, and not asserted.

No consideration was disclosed by either party. Sony Music Publishing Nigeria, Sony Music Publishing, Mavin Global Holdings and LADIPOE’s representatives were not reached for comment by this desk. Every structure described here is ordinary and lawful, and no allegation of wrongdoing is made.
