Orfium is a music and broadcast rights-management technology company. Its own corporate timeline states that Chris Mohoney and Drew Delis started the business in Los Angeles in 2016, that an engineering team was established in Athens in 2017, that Rob Wells joined as chief executive in 2018, and that Sony became its first business-to-business client in 2019. It acquired Breaker in Japan in 2021 and Soundmouse in 2023, and records the sale of Soundmouse to BMI in 2026.
Orfium describes itself as supplying technology and services to rightsholders: identifying and matching music usage, placing claims, handling royalty accounting and monitoring broadcast. The April 2023 partnership with PRS for Music is a different kind of role. Under that announcement Orfium licenses the PRS repertoire to music users across Africa and supplies the platform underneath it, which places it on the licensor side of the transaction rather than purely as a vendor.
Orfium is not a collecting society and holds no African repertoire of its own that has been identified in the documents checked. It does not own or administer the works it licenses in Africa under this arrangement: PRS members remain the rightsholders and PRS remains the administering society.
