Three. That is how many of this desk’s last 20 collection dates, 16 September to 9 October 2026, found Algeria with no presence anywhere on Spotify’s daily charts, not on a chart of its own, because the platform does not publish one for Algeria, and not on any other market’s chart either. On 30 September, 1 October and 9 October, Algeria’s only artist to ever reach this desk’s 50-artist African panel, the Algerian-French rapper Soolking, did not appear on a single published daily chart anywhere on the platform.
Soolking is not an occasional name on this panel. Checking his Spotify artist ID against all 26 of this desk’s surviving panel builds since 6 September, he is the only DZ-classified artist who has ever reached the top 50 at all, present on 21 of those 26 builds and absent from the other five. Algeria’s entire visibility on Spotify’s African panel is one man, one track, and one foreign chart, France’s daily chart, where he has never once crossed onto his own country’s.
Algeria is not the only African market without a Spotify daily chart of its own, which is exactly why this desk builds a cross-market panel rather than relying only on the handful of charts Spotify operates on the continent. For most of those markets, the gap is filled by several artists charting across several foreign markets between them. Algeria is the extreme case of that same structure, a single artist, a single track and a single foreign market standing in for the whole country, which is also why a few thousand streams in France are enough to take Algeria from present to absent on this panel.
The line drops to zero on the three dates he failed to chart anywhere, and sags twice more without quite reaching zero.

Across those 20 dates, he sat inside the top 50 on 15, 75 per cent of the window. On two more, 26 September and 3 October, he was still charting in France, just not high enough: 59,518 streams against a cutoff of 66,689 on the 26th, short by 7,171, 10.75 per cent of the line he needed to clear; 60,788 against 64,445 on 3 October, short by 3,657, 5.67 per cent. The rest of the time his France position drifted between 128 (21 September) and 194 (8 October), never threatening the top 100, always one bad week from falling out entirely, which is exactly what happened three times.
The 7,171-stream shortfall on 26 September is not new to this desk. A single-date snapshot published that week reported the same miss while focused on Egypt’s resulting grip on the panel’s export column that day. This piece asks a different question: not what happened to the export column on one day, but how often Soolking’s presence on the panel holds up across a full run of dates. The same 7,171 figure appears in both pieces, computed independently the second time, which is as much a check on the method as a reminder of the day itself.

Widening the window to 26 dates back to 6 September, before this desk’s per-market raw files for the earliest six dates were pruned, does not change the picture, it only loses resolution. Algeria was on the panel on 21 of those 26 dates, 80.8 per cent, missing on exactly the same five dates the narrower window flags. The wider window cannot say whether he was charting-but-short or absent altogether on the six early dates it adds, because the surviving file for those days is the panel build itself, not the full market-by-market chart underneath it. The two windows agree everywhere they overlap; the narrower one is simply the only one that can tell a near-miss from a blank.

This is a presence count, not a sum, so the usual leave-one-out test does not directly apply to the headline. It does apply to the streams underneath it, and the answer there is reassuring: the 20-date streams total runs from 1,126,344 with every date included down to 1,045,989 once his single biggest day, 21 September at 80,355 streams, is removed, and down further to 759,751 once his five biggest days are removed, yet his single largest day still never accounts for more than 8.92 per cent of what remains. No one date is carrying this pattern. The three blank dates and the two near-misses are spread across the window, not clustered around a single outlier.

Four limits matter here. First, this measures daily presence on Spotify’s published daily charts, not whether Soolking is popular in Algeria; a domestic streaming or radio market this desk does not track could look completely different. Second, the wider 26-date window is presence-only by necessity, not by choice, because the underlying per-market files for its earliest six dates no longer exist; nothing here claims to know what happened beneath the panel threshold on those six days. Third, this is a 20 to 26 date window ending 9 October, not a forecast; this desk has not measured whether a blank date is becoming more frequent over a longer run, only that three of the last 20 happened. Fourth, Soolking’s classification here rests on a direct Spotify artist ID match against this desk’s MusicBrainz-resolved registry, not a country-code guess, which is the strongest confidence tier this desk assigns and the reason his presence or absence can be stated this plainly; a lower-confidence classification elsewhere on the panel would carry a softer claim.
For anyone using chart presence as a proxy for a country’s recorded-music footprint, the practical lesson is to check how many artists are doing the carrying before trusting the number. A country’s whole Spotify visibility resting on one artist, one track and one foreign market is a different, far more fragile claim than a country with five or six artists spread across several charts, even if both produce an identical headline count on the day you happen to look. Algeria’s 75 per cent presence rate over the last 20 dates is real, but it is also one man’s current chart position away from being zero again, as it already was three times in this window.
