Read this before citing: This record does not claim the Def Jam Africa agreement was never executed, or that it was terminated. UMG's own announcement promised forthcoming Def Jam Africa releases from Vector among others; no source found confirms one ever shipped, and no source found announces that it did not. A DSP phonogram credit shows what a distributor was told to publish, not the terms of an underlying contract, so the absence of a Def Jam credit on Vector's output cannot alone prove no agreement existed or that none is still in force; a services or A&R-only arrangement can run for years without ever appearing on a copyright line, exactly as this desk found with UnitedMasters and Davido's Nine+ Records. Neither Vector nor Def Jam Recordings/Universal Music Group has issued any public statement on the status of the relationship, and none was found. GRAP Entertainment Limited's ownership and incorporation could not be independently verified: Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission has no public search API, and no Companies House or SEC record names it.
On 26 May 2020, Universal Music Group named Vector as one of nine flagship artists on the launch roster of its new pan-African label, Def Jam Africa. This publication checked every commercially available Vector release from that date through the most recent one it could find. None carries a Def Jam Africa, Def Jam Recordings or Universal Music phonogram credit. All three checked, spanning 2021 to 2024, carry a credit for GRAP Entertainment Limited, an imprint associated with the artist himself.
What the launch announced
Def Jam Africa’s launch was covered by Music Business Worldwide, Variety, The Fader and Nigerian trade outlets on the same day. All name the same nine artists: Boity, Cassper Nyovest, Larry Gaaga, Nadia Nakai, Nasty C, Tshego, Tellaman, Ricky Tyler and Vector. UMG described the division as reporting to Sipho Dlamini, managing director of Universal Music Sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa, with dedicated A&R, marketing, creative and digital teams. No source found from launch day states a contract type, a rights scope, a territory specific to Vector, or any consideration.

Nine months after the announced signing, and on every release checked afterward, the credit line is GRAP Entertainment, not Def Jam. No single, EP or album carrying a Def Jam Africa or Universal Music credit for Vector was found in this search.
No documented exit either
Neither UMG, Def Jam nor Vector has made a public statement, found by this publication, announcing an end to the arrangement. There was no exit announcement to check because there was no Def Jam-branded release to end. Trade coverage of other Def Jam Africa artists’ departures, including Zimbabwe’s Asaph in 2023, does not mention Vector.
