Angola's single national music copyright-collecting body, administered by SADIA and UNAC-SA.
AUDAC (Associação Única de Direitos de Autor e Conexos) is Angola’s single national body for collecting music copyright and neighbouring-rights royalties. It was created in February 2023 and is administered jointly by two collective-management associations, UNAC-SA and the Sociedade Angolana de Direitos de Autor (SADIA), which together represent Angola’s composers, performers and phonogram producers.
AUDAC licenses businesses that use music publicly, including broadcasters, venues and streaming platforms, under Angola’s copyright law (Lei 15/14), and runs a monitoring system that identifies tracks played on television and radio within seconds of airing. Under its published distribution rules, 85% of collected revenue goes to rights holders, 6% to the two partner associations, and 9% covers AUDAC’s own operating costs. The rates it set in 2023, as low as 3 kwanzas per broadcast, drew public criticism from Angolan artists over their size.
As the umbrella body created to fix the fragmented state of Angolan music-rights collection, AUDAC’s fortunes are tied to those of its two founding associations. SADIA’s own collective-management licence has separately been suspended by Angola’s Ministry of Culture since a September 2024 decree, a reminder that the underlying institutional structure remains unsettled even as AUDAC operates as the country’s sole collecting point.
