The Sociedade Angolana de Direitos de Autor (SADIA) is Angola’s original copyright collecting society, founded in 1990 to manage authors’ rights under Angolan and international law, including the Berne and Universal Copyright Conventions. It is based in Luanda and holds reciprocal representation agreements with roughly 200 sister societies in about 90 countries.
SADIA’s traditional role was collecting and distributing income from the use of musical works on radio, television, in commercial premises and at live concerts. Its monopoly ended with the 2014 law that created UNAC as a rival collective-management body, and Angolan press has since described SADIA’s authorisation as suspended pending regulatory review, leaving it currently dormant rather than active.
