Lusafrica is a Paris-based record label and production company founded in 1988 by José Da Silva. It built and released the recorded catalogue of Cesaria Evora and other Lusophone, African and Latin American artists, including Bonga, Boubacar Traore, Lura, Elida Almeida and Lucibela. MusicBrainz records the label under country code FR with a start year of 1988.
Sony Music France announced on 2 July 2025 that it had acquired Lusafrica. France’s national business register lists the company as LUSAFRICA (SIREN 424464014), a societe anonyme registered in Paris, with Sony Music Entertainment France SAS now recorded as a director alongside members of the Da Silva family. The register discloses officers, not shareholders, so the size of Sony’s stake is not public. Elodie Da Silva was chief executive of both Lusafrica and Africa Nostra at the time of the announcement.
Lusafrica’s African relevance is repertoire rather than domicile: the company is registered in Paris, but its catalogue is built around Cape Verdean, Angolan and Malian artists, most notably the complete discography of Cesaria Evora.
