Spain’s Atlético Madrid said there is no chance striker Julián Álvarez will be sold to Barcelona, rejecting renewed interest from the Catalan club.
The statement follows public comments by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who reiterated his club’s interest in signing Álvarez and said he hoped Atlético would accept an offer.
Atlético responded with a firm message, saying a move to Barcelona is off the table.
“There is a 0% chance of selling Julián Álvarez to Barça.”
Atlético also accused Barcelona of spreading “lies and half-truths” and said the situation is about “dignity, not money.”
Complaints and unresolved future#
Atlético reportedly sees itself as the victim of the saga and believes its reputation and finances have been damaged by how the transfer situation has developed. The club has taken its complaints to FIFA and the Spanish Football Federation.
- Álvarez, 26, has expressed a desire to leave and has reportedly made Barcelona his preferred destination.
- Arsenal continue to monitor the situation as the transfer window approaches its September 1 deadline.
- Álvarez was absent from Atlético training on Wednesday due to an illness.
