South African rapper South African rapper Tyson Sybateli has released Amehlo, a 14-track album that brings together new production directions and a set of featured collaborators.
The title translates to “eyes” in Zulu. The album’s concept centres on seeing, observing and gaining perspective, following the themes of his earlier projects: Home (2022) explored belonging, while Present. (2023) focused on being grounded in the current moment.
On Amehlo, Sybateli looks both inward and outward, reflecting on his position as an artist and the environment around him. The project continues the introspective quality of his previous work through a different lens.
Featured collaborators#
Sybateli has referred to the artists on his projects as “featured coworkers” rather than features. That description applies to the album’s guest list:
- Thato Saul
- Filah Lah Lah
- Tron Pyre of GOLDEN CHILD
- Buzzi Lee
- Marcus Harvey
The collaborations add different textures to the 14-track project while keeping Sybateli at the centre. His writing remains a defining element, but Amehlo also makes room for soulful textures, contemporary production and arrangements that move beyond a strictly traditional boom-bap sound.
Rollout and catalogue#
The album’s rollout included the singles “Company Party”, “Two”, “Dark & Lovely” and “Teflon Cards”, each introducing different aspects of the project before the full release.
Sybateli also hosted a listening session and merchandise pop-up in Centurion, South Africa, where attendees could hear the album ahead of its wider release and engage with its visual identity and merchandise.
The release follows a catalogue built around complete bodies of work rather than collections of songs designed for streaming metrics. That approach runs through Dulcé, Eve, Home and Present., with each project adding to his artistic identity.
Amehlo is now available on major streaming platforms.
