Pretoria-based South African rapper A-Reece says his 2017 album From Me to You & Only You has been removed from major streaming platforms and from his DistroKid account without warning.
The artist said the project disappeared from services including Spotify and Apple Music, and that he received no communication before or after the removal.
Fans alerted A-Reece to the removal#
In an Instagram Story, A-Reece said members of his fanbase, known as the $limes, first brought the issue to his attention through comments and direct messages. He then investigated and found the album missing from digital service providers (DSPs) and his DistroKid account.
“So you guys know how like… every year some strange things tend to happen to my music on dsp’s out the blue and what not… right? yeah, well this year was not about to have fomo so … ‘FMTYAOY’ has been removed not only off dsp’s but somehow from my @distrokid acc as well,” A-Reece wrote.
He said he had not received an explanation for the removal and described the recurring disruptions as tedious.
“You guys probably tired of reading or hearing stuff like this coming from me every now and then. Trust me, I find it tedious as well,” he wrote.
Possible re-upload and album background#
If the issue remains unresolved, A-Reece said he is prepared to re-upload the project to make it available to listeners again.
From Me to You & Only You was released in October 2017 under The Wrecking Crew banner. It followed his departure from Ambitiouz Entertainment and became associated with his introspective writing and distinct approach to South African hip-hop.
At the time of A-Reece’s post, there was no public explanation from DistroKid or the major streaming services regarding the album’s removal.
