Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo has called for the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for a violent attack on opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and Justin Muturi in Migori, Kenya.
Odhiambo said the assault on the leaders and their teams on Thursday, November 5, violated their constitutional rights to political participation, freedom of expression and personal security.
She questioned why political violence continues to occur despite repeated condemnations and assurances from authorities that investigations would be carried out.
“Nobody should have to brave stones to address fellow Kenyans and exercise their democratic and political rights. Nobody should have their constitutionally guaranteed security undermined on account of holding divergent political views,” she said.
Odhiambo said such attacks have become a recurring pattern. She argued that authorities have issued condemnations and promised investigations without taking enough action to prevent similar incidents.
