A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya, a Japan-based startup, has raised $5.5m in pre-seed funding, adding investor backing to the company behind the Bop ‘pocket DJ’ app.
The company launched Bop in April and was founded by former Spotify executive Máuhan M. Zonoozy as ‘a label that treats software like music’.
Investors include Mantis VC, SV Angel, BoxGroup, Quiet Capital, Remarkable Ventures, Common Metal, Gold House, Liquid 2 Ventures, Breakers VC, Collaborative Fund and Systemic Ventures.
Former Spotify executive Dawn Ostroff is also among the investors and has joined A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya as an adviser.
The company’s next release is described as a ‘musical sandbox mixer’ that will ‘let users play around with different elements of music-making, including being able to create instruments’. A multiplayer mode for Bop is also in development.
