British-Ghanaian artist and producer ginius has released a new project, Here’s Where We Once Were, a collection of songs built around love, uncertainty, and heartbreak.

The release is a personal one for ginius, who said the material comes from experiences she has lived rather than imagined. Across the project, she traces relationships from early attraction through doubt, emotional distance, and eventual acceptance.

“This is probably the realest tape I ever wrote,” ginius said. “Some of the songs I have written prior to this I had not lived but this is a tape that every part has once been my reality. It’s the beginning of the end; simply put.”

Production credits#

Here’s Where We Once Were draws on Afro R&B, Amapiano, and ginius’ own “afro blend” sound. Her approach combines Ghanaian Highlife influences with contemporary Afropop and R&B, reflecting her British-Ghanaian background.

  • Insvne Auggie produced “Love Me Softly,” “Woman,” “Different (Remix),” and “So You Do.”
  • Joker produced “Test Drive.”
  • Okukuseku the Bang Machine contributed production to “Lost & Numb.”
  • KFM Dadaba produced “Time & Attention,” which began as a freestyle.
  • Van Boied mixed and mastered “Time & Attention.”

Sound and themes#

While the production shifts across the project, the emotional thread remains consistent. ginius moves between tenderness and vulnerability, creating songs that function as snapshots of different points in a relationship.

The project focuses on what happens after love changes. ginius notes that relationships can end through separation or loss, but the memories created along the way remain significant.

That perspective is central to her wider artistry. Deeply connected to her Ghanaian roots, she has built a career as both a singer-songwriter and producer, developing soundscapes for her community of listeners, the Copilots.

With Here’s Where We Once Were, ginius turns personal experience into a musical journey about loving deeply, losing what mattered, and learning to remember it for what it was.
