France's Sacem and Deezer have introduced Sacem Play, a professional music service for independent businesses, with rollout planned by early 2027.

Sacem, Deezer launch professional music service for independent businesses

Sacem, France’s Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music, and French streaming company Deezer have launched Sacem Play, a professional music service for independent businesses that play music on their premises.

The service pairs Sacem’s customer and distribution network with Deezer’s catalogue, technology and editorial expertise. It is designed to give businesses music programming suited to their individual environments while ensuring creators and rights holders are paid.

How Sacem Play is positioned#

Sacem Play will complement Deezer for Professionals, which remains Deezer’s main offering for businesses operating multi-zone environments. The new service targets independent businesses through a simplified user experience.

It will include an activation and trial process intended to simplify onboarding. A gradual rollout is planned by early 2027.

Executive comment#

Jean-Felix Choukroun, Sacem’s director of marketing, customer relations, digital and key accounts, said the service was intended to make professional music solutions more accessible to smaller businesses.

“With Sacem Play, we want to put the full power of a professional solution at the service of independent businesses,” Choukroun said. “Music is a genuine driver of customer experience, attractiveness, and differentiation.”

He added that usage data generated through the service would help Sacem allocate authors’ rights more accurately.

Julien Delbourg, Deezer’s commercial director, said the service would allow the company to apply its technology, catalogue and editorial expertise to the needs of independent businesses.

“At a time when music is becoming a strategic tool for businesses in terms of customer experience, brand image, and performance, Sacem Play enables us to put our technology, catalogue, and editorial expertise at the service of independent businesses,” Delbourg said.

Creator remuneration context#

The launch sits within the two companies’ broader work on creator remuneration. Sacem and Deezer have previously collaborated on Deezer’s Artist-Centric remuneration model, and Sacem uses Deezer’s technology to identify music that is entirely generated by artificial intelligence.

The companies said the new service is intended to provide businesses with a structured way to use music while supporting the payment of rights to creators and other rights holders.
