EBSCO Information Services, based in Ipswich, Massachusetts, United States, released its 2027 Serials Price Projection Report on Oct. 5, 2026. The report projects that effective publisher price increases for serials will range from 4% to 6% in 2027, before currency impact.
The projection is intended to help libraries and publishers plan for the upcoming renewal cycle. It examines several factors that influence serials pricing and library collection decisions, including:
- inflation
- production and delivery costs
- publication output
- title mix
- licensing terms
- publisher packaging restructuring
Transformative Agreements, Read and Publish agreements and Open Access models are also changing how publishing costs are allocated across institutions, prompting libraries and publishers to reevaluate pricing models.
The projections are based on EBSCO’s analysis of publisher survey responses, incoming publisher pricing data, historical pricing patterns and current exchange rates. EBSCO recommends caution when interpreting the projections because they rely on historical patterns, estimates and current exchange rates. The full report includes separate price increase estimates by format and potential currency impacts.
