Born and raised in Lagos with roots in Imo State, Njoku Gregory, popularly known as Dozi, has been drawn to music from an early age.
He started out miming songs and studying the performances of icons such as Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and Wande Coal before finding his own voice as a songwriter and recording artist.
With influences spanning Afrobeats, Afropop, Highlife, and Afro-Caribbean sounds, Dozi describes his musical identity as “Unlock Music” a subgenre under Afrobeats that represents a personal cry for freedom.
That idea of freedom feeds into his desire to create music that feels expressive, rhythmic, and connected to African culture while reaching audiences beyond the continent.
