Kingpin’s music blends Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, Afro-pop, soul and Fuji influences. He began in visual art before moving into music and production, a path that shaped his focus on real-life observation and narrative.
The song traces back to 2016, when Kingpin saw news reports on Instagram and began asking why the difficulties facing ordinary Nigerians appeared so entrenched. It deals with financial pressure, higher living costs, unfulfilled promises and the daily effort to keep going.
A decade later, Kingpin has produced the record for a new audience. Storyteller is not framed as a direct political attack. Instead, it is written from the viewpoint of an everyday person recording frustration, survival and the hope that circumstances can improve.
