Dolly Parton Estate: Nephew Used Barbed Wire to Avoid Lawsuit Service

The Dolly Parton estate has asked a Nashville court to deny Bryan Seaver's extension request, alleging he used barbed wire to evade service in an extortion lawsuit.

The estate of Dolly Parton has asked a court in Nashville, Tennessee, United States, to reject a request by her nephew Bryan Seaver for more time in a lawsuit, alleging he used barbed wire and a no-trespassing sign to avoid being served.

She’s Alive LLC, the company that oversees Parton’s estate, is suing Seaver for allegedly threatening and extorting people associated with the company. A filing submitted on Monday, October 5, in Davidson County Chancery Court states that a process server found a no-trespassing sign in Seaver’s front yard and barbed wire draped across the handrails leading to his front door.

“Mr. Seaver attempted to evade service of process, and this Court should not reward that behavior,” the filing reads. It notes that the server tried to deliver documents three times.

Extension request challenged#

The estate’s filing also says Seaver failed to retain counsel after saying he would, and it asks the court to deny his request for an extension in the case.

Background and response#

Seaver, who announced Parton’s death in a video posted to her Instagram page in August, has denied the allegations. He said he was fired as Parton’s head of security over what he called contrived threats.

Seaver said last month:

“I was fired after the estate negotiated with me and my company for services in perpetuity and agreed to that service provision from my company. A week later they fired me for these contrived threats.”

Parton died on August 25 after a brief battle with cancer.

Next hearing#

The estate is asking that a temporary restraining order against Seaver and his company be converted into a temporary injunction. The next hearing is scheduled for Friday, October 9.
