Universal Music Publishing Group is the music publishing arm of Universal Music Group N.V. It signs songwriters and administers compositions, collecting royalties from streaming, sales, broadcast, public performance and synchronisation. Publishing administration is a distinct legal relationship from owning a master recording, and a UMPG administration agreement is not evidence that the company owns an artist’s master rights.
Its role in African repertoire is established here from the United States federal copyright register rather than from any announcement. Across registrations made from 25 September 2025 onward, MAVIN GLOBAL HOLDINGS LIMITED, the UK holding company of the Nigerian label group Mavin, is recorded as a copyright claimant with its address given care of Universal Music Publishing Group, 1550 W McEwen Drive, Suite 400, Franklin, Tennessee, and with UMPG as the rights-and-permissions contact. Registrations of the same catalogue made up to 25 July 2025 gave Mavin’s address care of Warner Chappell Music LTD and later WC Music Corp. in Los Angeles. On the later filings Divine Ikubor, who records as Rema, is also a claimant at the UMPG address in his own name.
A care-of address on a registration identifies who handles the copyright, which is administration. It is not, on its own, evidence of ownership, and no document obtained states the terms, term, territory or splits of any Mavin publishing agreement. Neither Universal nor Warner has announced one.
UMPG is not independent. It sits inside Universal Music Group N.V., a company listed on Euronext Amsterdam.
