Tall Racks was founded in Johannesburg in August 2018 by South African rapper Nasty C (Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo) as a record label, with singer-songwriter Rowlene as its first signing. In 2025 Nasty C relaunched it as a self-service digital distribution and royalty platform aimed at independent artists rather than a traditional imprint.
The rebuilt platform offers global distribution to major streaming services, automated royalty-split payments, a digital wallet for payouts and real-time streaming analytics, with artists retaining full rights to their music. Nasty C released his fifth studio album, Free, through Tall Racks in September 2025, his first major independent project since leaving Def Jam Recordings; it became the fastest South African hip-hop project of the year to pass one million Spotify streams.
Tall Racks is independently owned by Nasty C, with no outside label or distributor named as a partner in its current platform form.
