Ogopa Deejays is a Kenyan music production house and record label founded in Nairobi by brothers Francis and Lucas Bikedo in the late 1990s. Based in the city’s South B estate, the outfit is credited with developing the Boomba (also called Kapuka) style, a blend of hip hop and dancehall with African rhythms that helped define Kenyan urban music in the 2000s.
The company is independently owned and run by its founders, who have kept a low public profile throughout its history. It produced and developed artists including the late E-Sir, Nameless, Amani, Redsan and Kleptomaniax, and in 2014 extended the brand into Namibia and South Africa through a sister imprint, Ogopa Butterfly.
Ogopa Deejays operates today as Ogopa Studios, offering production, artist development and commercial/events work alongside its record label activities, and continues to release music through a refreshed roster.
