The Music In Africa Foundation is a pan-African non-profit organisation registered in South Africa and based in Johannesburg. It runs musicinafrica.net, a portal carrying African music-industry news, a directory of companies and professionals, and educational and networking resources for the continent’s music sector.
It grew out of the Music In Africa project created in 2011 by the Siemens Stiftung and the Goethe-Institut, and was established as an independent foundation in 2013. It is governed by a pan-African board and funded by grants and partners rather than owned commercially.
It matters as one of the few continent-wide reference and convening bodies for the African music industry, running the ACCES conference and maintaining widely cited directories and market information.
