Mayonie Productions is an independent South African record label and talent-management agency founded and owned by the artist and producer Zakhele Madida, better known as Zakes Bantwini. It describes itself as the first successful Durban-based record label and works largely with Afro-house, Afro-tech and Afro-electronic acts.
Alongside recording and artist management, the company runs a booking business and stages the Mayonie Open Air festival, which programmes South African electronic dance acts. Its roster has included Zakes Bantwini, Drega, Maline Aura, BLAQRHYTHM and BokkieUlt, and it earlier developed artists such as L’Vovo Derrango and DJ Sindara.
The label is independently held by Zakes Bantwini, who has also worked as an A&R executive elsewhere in the South African industry. It is based in Durban, with an address in Rosebank, Johannesburg also used for bookings.
