Big Concerts International is a Cape Town-based concert promoter, the largest in South Africa and the only African promoter to have appeared on Pollstar’s list of the world’s top 100 promoters. Attie van Wyk founded the company in 1989, and it has since staged thousands of shows for touring international artists in South Africa, including U2’s 360° Tour dates at Cape Town Stadium and FNB Stadium in 2011.
Live Nation Entertainment acquired a controlling interest in the company in February 2016, extending Live Nation’s promoter network into Africa for the first time. Big Concerts continued operating under Justin van Wyk, who remains its managing director, and now trades publicly as Live Nation Big Concerts. It works alongside Ticketmaster South Africa, also part of the Live Nation group, on ticketing for its shows.
The company’s business is concert and festival promotion, event production, sponsorship sales and venue and hospitality management, and it continues to book major international touring acts for the South African market.
