Knitting Factory Records Inc.

Based in
Brooklyn, New York, United States

Knitting Factory Records Inc. is a United States record company named on the phonogram line of one Nigeria-only edition of Femi Kuti’s 2018 album One People One World, where the credit reads “℗ 2018 Knitting Factory Records Inc. / Femi Kuti”. That is the only Apple Music credit located for the company across the Femi Kuti and Mádé Kuti catalogues, and it names the artist as a co-owner of the recording.

The company is the label of record for Femi Kuti’s Africa For Africa (catalogue number KFR1113CD, 2011), No Place For My Dream (KFR1129-2, 2013) and One People One World (KFR1142-2, 2018) on MusicBrainz. On the Apple Music worldwide editions of the same three albums the phonogram line names Partisan Records instead, and Knitting Factory does not appear.

The company is not registered at Companies House in the United Kingdom. A search of the register for “Knitting Factory” returns one result, Kaiye Knitting Factory Co., Limited, company number 08201620, dissolved, which is unrelated. Its legal entity details and ownership could not be established from any register reachable for this profile.

The official Fela Kuti website states that since 2008 the Kuti family has partnered with Knitting Factory Entertainment and Partisan Records to reissue the Fela catalogue. The 2021 double album Legacy + carries the catalogue number PTKF2196, a hybrid of the Partisan and Knitting Factory prefixes. Femi Kuti’s 2025 album Journey Through Life carries PTSN3056-2, a Partisan-only prefix.
