Joburg Theatre

Joburg Theatre is a performing arts venue in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, staging opera, ballet, musicals, drama and concerts across several stages in a complex that also includes the Mandela Theatre and studio spaces. It functions as a live venue for touring and local music acts as well as a producing house for its own theatrical and dance seasons.

As a South African venue it has hosted Afrobeats and local pop acts alongside its core theatre and opera programming, and has featured in Music In Africa’s coverage of South African live-events venues.

It matters as one of Johannesburg’s few large-capacity, publicly accessible venues that regularly programmes live music alongside theatre, giving touring artists a formal stage option outside of the club and festival circuit.
