Bomayé Musik is a Paris-based recorded-music label and artist management operation founded in 2006 by Général Philo, Youssoupha and Lassana. Built around French-Congolese rapper Youssoupha, it became a hub for Francophone hip-hop artists of Congolese heritage, including Gaz Mawete, Naza and Keblack at various points in its history.
Youssoupha left the label in April 2022 to found his own imprint, 99 Révolution, and Général Philo has continued running Bomayé Musik since. Many of its releases carry a parallel “Mukongo Business” phonogram credit alongside or instead of the Bomayé Musik name, a relationship this desk could not independently resolve. No public filing establishes the label’s current legal structure in France or DR Congo.
Its relevance to African music runs through its artists rather than its address: the label operates out of France but its roster and repertoire are centred on DR Congo and Francophone Central and West Africa.
