YFM is a South African commercial youth radio station based in Johannesburg, established in 1997. It broadcasts urban music including kwaito, hip-hop and R&B, and streams online alongside its FM signal.
The station is operated by YIRED (Pty) Ltd. It was launched as part of the first wave of private commercial radio licensing after 1994 and also gave rise to the Y-Mag magazine title.
It matters as the station most closely associated with the rise of kwaito and post-apartheid South African youth music culture.
