The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) is the trade association for South African record companies, representing both major and independent labels. It was known as the Association of the South African Music Industry (ASAMI), formed in the 1970s, and adopted the RiSA name in 2000. Its head office is in Randburg, in the Johannesburg area.
RiSA organises the annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs), publishes the Official South African Charts and administers the sales certification of albums and singles. It also established SAMPRA, the collecting body that licenses and distributes needletime royalties for recording rights holders.
The association is a non-profit funded by and accountable to its member companies. It is led by a secretariat under chief executive Advocate Nhlanhla Sibisi.
