Sony Music Entertainment and Crux Global Signed a Three-Tier Distribution Partnership for Ghana. No Equity, No Masters, No Disclosed Consideration.

Sony Music Entertainment and Accra-based Crux Global announced a three-tier distribution and artist-services partnership for Ghana on 19 September 2024. No equity, no masters, no disclosed consideration.

Deal sheet

Status
STILL DESCRIBED AS LIVE BY CRUX GLOBAL ITSELF AS AT 28 SEPTEMBER 2026, ON FIRST-PARTY EVIDENCE.

The Crux Global website, cruxmusic.global, retrieved 28 September 2026, states on its home page that it helps African artists "supported by our relationship with Sony Music Group & The Orchard" and reproduces The Orchard's logo. The page metadata gives a content-modified timestamp of 17 September 2026. That is the strongest and most current evidence located that the arrangement has not ended, and it is a statement by one party about itself, not a document agreed by both.

NO SONY CONFIRMATION OF CURRENT STATUS WAS LOCATED. Sony Music Entertainment has published nothing about this partnership that this desk could reach, at announcement or since. A search of sonymusic.com returned HTTP 403. A search of theorchard.com for "Crux" returned no matching press item. Sony's side of the current status is therefore unverified.

THE BUSINESS HAS BROADENED SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT. Crux Global's own site now describes four divisions rather than one: music, education through Crux Global Academy, entertainment, and a sports arm whose named work is with the Basketball Africa League and NBA Africa. Whether any of that sits inside or outside the Sony arrangement is not stated.

NO AMENDMENT, EXTENSION OR TERMINATION HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED by either party in any source located.

A DISTRIBUTION AND ARTIST-SERVICES PARTNERSHIP. NOT AN ACQUISITION, NOT AN EQUITY INVESTMENT, NOT A TRANSFER OF MASTERS OR PUBLISHING.

Every source located describes a three-tier arrangement for supporting Ghanaian artists. None describes a purchase of shares, a purchase of recordings, a purchase of compositions, or a joint venture entity. No source states that Sony Music Entertainment acquired, or took an option over, any copyright owned by Crux Global or by any Crux Global client. This record makes no such claim and none should be inferred from it.

TIER ONE, DISTRIBUTION, THROUGH THE ORCHARD. Independent Ghanaian artists receive global distribution delivered by The Orchard, the Sony-owned distribution and label-services company. All three reports name The Orchard as the vehicle for this tier. A distribution agreement is a supply arrangement: it determines who delivers a recording to digital services and who accounts for the income. It is not a conveyance of the recording. Whether these are licence-in deals, pure distribution deals or something else is NOT disclosed, and no royalty rate, term, advance or exclusivity provision appears in any source.

TIER TWO, FULL SERVICE, UNDER SONY MUSIC AFRICA. Selected artists receive production, marketing and distribution under Sony Music Africa. The rights position under this tier is NOT disclosed. Whether artists in this tier assign masters, licence them for a term, or retain them entirely is not stated anywhere. The number of artists, the selection criteria and the identity of any artist in this tier are also not disclosed.

TIER THREE, CATALOGUE. Back catalogue by established Ghanaian artists is to be brought to digital services. Who owns that catalogue is NOT stated. Whether Sony takes a licence, a distribution appointment or an assignment over any of it is NOT stated. No artist, estate, album or recording in this tier is named in any source located.

PUBLISHING IS ABSENT ENTIRELY. No source located mentions compositions, songwriters, a publishing administration appointment, Sony Music Publishing or any collecting society. This record therefore makes no claim about the publishing side, and the absence should not be read as a claim that publishing was excluded. It was simply never addressed.

WHAT CRUX GLOBAL CONTRIBUTES IS ACCESS, NOT CATALOGUE. On the face of the announcement, the consideration flowing to Sony is reach into the Ghanaian market: a local company with an existing client base, an existing release operation and a stated six years of trading. Sony's own proof point for that reach was a single 2022 recording. Nothing in any source transfers a catalogue to Sony.

Territory
GHANA IS THE STATED MARKET. THE DISTRIBUTION IS WORLDWIDE. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME THING.

All three reports frame the partnership as support for artists in Ghana, and all three give Accra as the operational hub for artist development, distribution and catalogue management. Music Week describes the partnership as "newly headquartered in Accra, Ghana". Ghana is therefore the territory of the repertoire and of the operation.

The distribution itself is expressly global. The distribution tier is described as giving independent Ghanaian artists the tools for "global distribution", and The Orchard operates worldwide. A partnership scoped to Ghanaian repertoire is not a partnership scoped to Ghanaian territory, and this record does not treat one as the other.

NO TERRITORIAL GRANT IS ESTABLISHED. No source states a territory clause, because no source states that any grant of rights was made at all. There is nothing here to which a territory could attach on the documents located.

NO TERM IS DISCLOSED. No commencement date beyond the announcement date, no duration, no renewal mechanism and no termination right appears in any source. Whether the arrangement is a fixed term, a rolling term or an open-ended framework could not be established.

Read this before citing: ESTABLISHED. That on 19 September 2024 Sony Music Entertainment and Crux Global announced a three-tier partnership covering distribution through The Orchard, full service under Sony Music Africa, and catalogue. That the named Sony executives are Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music Africa, Christel Kayibi, Director of Repertoire Strategy for Africa, and Jean-Sebastien Permal, Vice President of A&R for Continental Europe and Africa. That the named Crux Global co-founders are Ike Otoo Arhin and Kofi Kyei. That Accra is given as the operational hub. That Crux Global's own website currently states the Sony Music Group and Orchard relationship. Each of these appears in three independently bylined trade reports published the same day, and the last in a first-party source.

NOT DISCLOSED. The consideration. No cash sum, advance, equity stake, valuation, royalty rate, revenue split, term, territory clause or minimum commitment appears in any of the three trade reports or in any first-party source located. "Not disclosed" is the finding. No figure is asserted here and none should be inferred.

THE UK REGISTER DOES NOT RESOLVE CRUX GLOBAL, AND THAT IS A GAP, NOT AN ALLEGATION. A search of the UK register returns exactly one active company whose name is "Crux Global" plus a suffix: CRUX GLOBAL LTD, company number 16006514, incorporated 9 October 2024, which is three weeks AFTER this announcement. Its registered office is 20 Wenlock Road, London N1 7GU, an address used by very large numbers of unrelated companies through a company-formation agent, which on its own means nothing and is not treated here as meaningful. Its declared business is the decisive point: SIC codes 62012 business and domestic software development, 63110 data processing and hosting, 63990 other information service activities and 66220 activities of insurance agents and brokers. There is no sound recording or music publishing code. Its officers are Mark Steven Allcock (from 6 August 2026), Roberto Aguli Ruiz Flores (from 9 October 2024, Mexican, resident Mexico), Shranick Sethia (from 9 October 2024, Indian, resident India, and the sole active person with significant control, holding more than 50 per cent but less than 75 per cent of shares and 75 per cent or more of voting rights) and Antonio De Jesus Barranco Calvo, who resigned 1 October 2025. NONE of these names matches either reported Crux Global co-founder. On the declared business activity alone, this desk does NOT treat company 16006514 as the Accra music business Sony partnered with, and makes no suggestion of impropriety by anyone connected with it. There is no requirement that a Ghanaian company register in the United Kingdom, and two businesses may share a common name.

GHANA'S REGISTER COULD NOT BE CHECKED, AND THIS WAS ATTEMPTED. The Registrar General's Department site at rgd.gov.gh publishes no company name search. The RGD online portal it links to, hosted at egovonline.gegov.gov.gh, returned "Error. Page cannot be displayed" on 28 September 2026. There is no public API. Crux Global's incorporation in Ghana is therefore UNVERIFIED by any register, and nothing about it is asserted here either way. Accra headquarters rests on the company's own statements and on three trade reports, which is sufficient for a headquarters claim and not sufficient for a legal-entity claim.

A FIRST-PARTY NAME THAT DOES NOT MATCH THE ONE REGISTER ENTRY. The footer of cruxmusic.global reads "© CRUX GLOBAL LIMITED 2026". This record does NOT equate that footer with company 16006514, and cannot: the footer is unnumbered, "Limited" is also the standard suffix in Ghana, and the declared activities of 16006514 do not include music. The footer is recorded as an observation, not resolved into an identification.

THE CREDIT-LINE TIMING ON THE SONG SONY CITED. Sony's proof point was "Sugarcane (Remix)", released 8 April 2022. Checked on two independent datasets, MusicBrainz and Deezer, that release carries the label credit Crux Global and MOVES Recordings jointly. But on Camidoh's OWN principal releases, the last credit naming Crux Global is "L.I.T.A (Deluxe Edition)", 23 June 2023, fifteen months BEFORE the announcement. His releases from 10 April 2024 onward credit Grind Dont Stop Records, joined from 13 June 2024 by Tamari and REPUBLIC54. The last Camidoh principal release before the announcement, "NLF (Breakfast) [Remix]" of 16 September 2024, three days before it, credits Grind Dont Stop, Tamari and REPUBLIC54, with no Crux Global credit. That is a metadata fact and nothing more.

WHAT THE CREDIT LINE DOES NOT ESTABLISH, STATED PLAINLY. It does NOT establish that Camidoh left Crux Global, that any agreement between them was terminated, that any agreement ever existed in the form the credits imply, or that Sony's characterisation of the record was inaccurate. A label credit is delivery metadata supplied by whoever delivers a release. It is not a contract, it is not a register of title, and it changes for reasons including new deals, expired deals, reversion, re-delivery by a different distributor and plain error. Why the credit changed was NOT established and is not claimed.

THE SWITCH READING IS WRONG ON THE FULLER DATA, AND THIS DESK CHECKED IT. Grind Dont Stop is not a new arrival that displaced Crux Global. Deezer records it on Camidoh releases from 6 March 2019, before any Crux Global credit, and it recurs on 19 August 2020, 5 August 2022 and 10 August 2022, interleaved with the Crux Global and MOVES credits throughout. It reads as the artist's own imprint running continuously in parallel, not as a successor. Crux Global also appears on Camidoh releases ALONE, without MOVES, on 9 June 2020 and 11 December 2020, and MOVES appears alone on 13 July 2021, so the two were not invariably joint.

CRUX GLOBAL IS STILL A LIVE LABEL CREDIT IN THE MARKET. "Jamming", released 23 January 2026, carries the label credit "Crux Global" alone. IT IS NOT A CAMIDOH PRINCIPAL RELEASE: the principal artist is P. Montana and Camidoh is a featured contributor. It is recorded here because it defeats any reading that Crux Global stopped appearing as a label credit, and it is expressly NOT offered as evidence of a current Camidoh relationship.

AN UNRESOLVED SONY-SHAPED CREDIT, NOT CLAIMED AS SONY. "Face My Fears", released 9 May 2025, carries the label credit "SM Entertainment West Africa Limited". The principal artist is The Majeek, with Shoday and Camidoh as contributors, so it is again not a Camidoh principal release. The string resembles Sony Music Entertainment West Africa Limited, but "SM Entertainment" is also the name of an unrelated major Korean company, and no source was located that resolves the abbreviation. This desk does NOT assert that this credit refers to Sony. It is recorded as unresolved.

BOTH DATASETS CONTAIN NAME ERRORS, WHICH IS WHY NEITHER WAS USED ALONE. MusicBrainz credits "Crux Records" on "Sugarcane (Latin Remix)" of 2 September 2022, where Deezer credits "Crux Global / MOVES Recordings" for the same release. Deezer separately renders "MOVES Recoridngs" on "Available" of 9 April 2021 and carries at least five spellings of Grind Dont Stop, including "GRIND DONT STOP CO. LTD.". These are metadata-quality artefacts. "Crux Records" is NOT treated here as a distinct entity. Coverage also differs sharply, 28 releases on MusicBrainz against 61 on Deezer, and the fuller dataset is what overturned the switch reading above.

MOVES RECORDINGS IS A UK COMPANY WITH A DISCLOSED CONTROL CHAIN, AND IT IS NOT A PARTY TO THIS DEAL. MOVES RECORDINGS LTD, number 11607248, incorporated 5 October 2018, active, registered office moved to Newcastle upon Tyne on 22 September 2026. Its sole person with significant control is MARATHON ARTISTS LIMITED, holding 75 per cent or more of shares and voting rights with the right to appoint or remove directors, notified 5 October 2018. Marathon Artists Limited, number 08024700, incorporated 11 April 2012, has one person with significant control: Wiaczeslaw Smolokowski, 75 per cent or more of shares and voting rights as a member of a firm, notified 6 April 2016, Polish national resident in Switzerland. Current MOVES directors are Marcin Marek Czernik, from 5 October 2018, and Prudence Louise Harris, from 9 June 2022. So the label credited jointly on the record Sony cited as proof of Ghanaian market reach is ultimately controlled, on the UK register, from Switzerland. MOVES is named in one trade report as Crux Global's "previous partner". It is NOT a party to the Sony arrangement on any source located and is not recorded as one.

A CONTRADICTION LEFT STANDING. One trade report calls MOVES Recordings the "previous partner" on the cited release. Yet MOVES Recordings' own website, retrieved 28 September 2026, still lists both Camidoh and Crux Global on its artists page, at moves.life/camidoh and moves.life/crux-global. This desk does NOT read those pages as evidence of a current relationship: the Camidoh page text is plainly written in 2022, describing further Sugarcane remixes as "on the way" and a debut album being "cooked up". It reads as unmaintained legacy content. The contradiction is recorded rather than resolved, because it cannot be resolved from these documents.

A DECLARED-ACTIVITY DISCREPANCY ON MOVES, RECORDED NOT SMOOTHED. MOVES RECORDINGS LTD declares SIC codes 90030 artistic creation and 99999 dormant company, while every set of accounts on its filing history is described as total exemption full accounts rather than dormant company accounts. SIC codes are self-declared. No conclusion is drawn from this.

WHAT CRUX GLOBAL'S PREVIOUS PARTNER ALREADY CLAIMED IT DID. The Crux Global page on MOVES Recordings' own site describes Crux as handling "back catalogue classics from the 80s and 90s that have previously been unavailable on streaming platforms". That is the same activity as tier three of the Sony arrangement. The observation is that the catalogue tier describes work Crux was already credited with by a previous partner, not that Sony misdescribed anything.

THE FIGURES ON THE CITED SONG ARE THE ANNOUNCEMENT'S OWN. Over 100 million YouTube views and over 150 million streams are as stated by the announcing parties and reproduced by all three outlets. This desk did not independently audit either number and does not vouch for them.

NOT ESTABLISHED, AND CHECKED. What relationship, if any, exists between Grind Dont Stop Records, Crux Global and MOVES Recordings. No register entry, filing or first-party statement connecting them was located. One adjacent data point is recorded without inference: Camidoh's "Ajackie" of 23 October 2020 carries the Deezer label credit "Grind Dont Stop Co Ltd Under Exclusive License to emPawa Africa Limited", which shows that credit lines in this market do sometimes state a licence relationship expressly. None of the Crux Global credits does.

DATE USED. 19 September 2024 is the announcement date, carried by all three trade reports. No date of execution of any agreement is disclosed anywhere, and the announcement date is not treated here as the date any contract was signed.

On 19 September 2024, Sony Music Entertainment announced a three-tier partnership with Crux Global, an Accra-headquartered digital distribution, PR and brand-management company founded in 2019. Three independent trade outlets reported it the same day, each naming the same executives on both sides and each describing the same three tiers.

What the partnership is, on the face of every document located: a distribution and artist-services arrangement. What it is not: an acquisition, an equity investment, a masters purchase, a publishing deal or a catalogue sale. No consideration of any kind was disclosed, and none is asserted here.

Tier one, distribution. Independent Ghanaian artists are distributed through The Orchard, the Sony-owned distribution and label-services company. A distribution agreement moves recordings to shops. It does not, by itself, move ownership of them.

Tier two, full service. Selected artists sit under Sony Music Africa for production, marketing and distribution. Neither the rights position under this tier nor the number of artists in it was disclosed.

Tier three, catalogue. Back catalogue by established Ghanaian artists is brought to streaming services. Who owns that catalogue, who licenses it and on what split is not stated in any source located.

Sony named Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music Africa, with oversight from Christel Kayibi, Director of Repertoire Strategy for Africa, and Jean-Sebastien Permal, Vice President of A&R for Continental Europe and Africa. Crux Global named co-founders Ike Otoo Arhin and Kofi Kyei. Accra was given as the operational hub for artist development, distribution and catalogue management.

The announcement offered one proof point for Crux Global’s market reach: “Sugarcane (Remix)” by Camidoh featuring Mayorkun, Darkoo and King Promise, released 8 April 2022, cited at over 100 million YouTube views and over 150 million streams. That record’s own label credit, on both datasets checked, reads Crux Global and MOVES Recordings jointly. MOVES Recordings is a separate UK company, and one of the three trade reports described it as Crux Global’s “previous partner” on that release.

Crux Global’s own website, retrieved 28 September 2026, states that its distribution is “supported by our relationship with Sony Music Group & The Orchard” and carries The Orchard’s logo, which is the only first-party confirmation located that the arrangement is still live.
