Sony Music Entertainment West Africa Limited

Sony Music Entertainment's Lagos-headquartered regional subsidiary for West Africa, opened 2016.

Based in
Lagos, Nigeria

Sony Music Entertainment West Africa Limited is Sony Music Entertainment’s regional operating subsidiary for the West African market, headquartered in Lagos. The office opened in 2016, built around the signing of Nigerian artist Davido, and has since expanded into Ghana under General Manager Oluwaseun “Banko” Lloyd, who took the role in June 2019.

The company is wholly owned by Sony Music Entertainment and reports into Sony Music Entertainment Africa, based in Johannesburg. Rather than signing every artist directly, Sony Music West Africa also structures relationships as licences from independent labels: Ghanaian artist Gyakie’s catalogue has been released under exclusive licence from her own label, Flip The Music, since 2022, with Sony Music West Africa named as licensee on her phonogram credits.

As a major-label subsidiary rather than a public-facing storefront, the office has no dedicated West Africa domain; its LinkedIn presence lists Sony’s global corporate site, sonymusic.com.
