MUSIC is a New York-based investment company founded by Matt Pincus as a joint venture with the merchant bank LionTree in 2019. It describes itself as the first diversified investment company focused exclusively on music and music-adjacent businesses, and in May 2022 announced it had raised about $200 million in permanent capital from Jonathan Soros’s JS Capital Management and Schusterman Family Investments alongside LionTree. Pincus previously founded the independent publisher SONGS Music Publishing, sold to Kobalt Capital in 2017 for a reported $160 million; MUSIC and Francisco Partners also hold a controlling stake in Kobalt.
By mid-2023, MUSIC had deployed roughly $105 million of equity across a portfolio that includes the sample platform Splice, the ticketing company DICE, fintech company HIFI, Soundtrack Your Brand and the Atlanta label LVRN (Love Renaissance).
