VP Records is an independent reggae, dancehall and soca label, publisher and distributor founded in 1979 in Queens, New York, by Vincent “Randy” Chin and Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin. It owns the Greensleeves Records, Dub Rockers and 17 North Parade imprints and remains privately held and family-run, now led by the Chins’ sons Randy and Christopher Chin, with Patricia Chin still active in the business. No parent company or outside majority investor has been identified.
Its distribution division, VPAL Music, handles releases outside VP’s own signed roster. In February 2015 it signed Nigerian dancehall artist Patoranking to distribute his debut album, announced by a named territory manager at “VP Records Music Group Africa.” That named, commercial relationship with a Nigerian artist is VP’s documented link to the African market; VP’s own current office listings do not include an African city.
