Vuga's own About page says it was founded in 2012 by three unnamed music enthusiasts as a mood-based streaming platform, pivoting to publishing administration in 2019. Vuga's own April 2025 press release, republished on both its site and its counterparty's, instead says: "Founded in 2019 by Ralph B. Amachree, Kazeem Adebisi Lawal, and Christopher Okekeze." The company's two own documents disagree on both the founding year and whether founders are named.

Vuga Music Inc. is a USA-based, privately held publishing administrator representing independent African and diaspora artists and labels. It signed a multi-territory sub-publishing agreement with Sheer Publishing Africa (now Downtown Music Publishing Africa) in April 2025, giving that company administration of its catalogue across the African continent.
