Labelheaded

South African label services and distribution company. Holds exclusive licences on its roster's masters rather than owning them. Publishing administration runs through Downtown Music Publishing Africa since May 2026.

Not established. Downtown Music Publishing Africa said on 27 May 2026 that Labelheaded was in "its first six months of operation", which would place the start around November 2025. Apple Music carries "under exclusive license to Labelheaded" credits on releases dated as early as February 2022. Apple retains the original release date when a recording is re-delivered by a new licensee, so the earlier credits do not settle the question in either direction.

Labelheaded is a South African label services and distribution company. Its own website describes it as “a distributor delivering personalised label services that strengthens independence”, working with “a select group of artists, labels, and managers”, and lists digital distribution, video distribution, DSP pitching, radio plugging, PR and marketing, digital advertising, release strategy, metadata management, neighbouring rights, Content ID, sync licensing and catalogue marketing among its services.

Downtown Music Publishing Africa named its founders as Wendy Verwey Bekker and Ian Bredenkamp when it announced a publishing administration partnership with the company on 27 May 2026. That announcement described Labelheaded as “independently owned and financed”, said it had signed eight South African artists in its first six months of operation, and named seven of them: Maleh, Ross Learmonth, Pilani Bubu, December Streets, Espacio Dios, Relebogile Mabotja and Len Muller.

On Apple Music, the company appears in the phonogram line as a licensee rather than an owner. The recurring pattern is a credit reading “under exclusive license to Labelheaded”, with the sound recording copyright held by the artist or by the artist’s own company: Cradle of the Fourthkind for Espacio Dios, Psalms Productions for Maleh, Bupila Publishing for Pilani Bubu, Len Muller (Pty) Ltd, Lebotja Media for Relebogile Mabotja, and December Streets and Ross Learmonth in their own names. No document obtained shows Labelheaded acquiring copyright in any recording.

The company could not be resolved to a corporate register. A search of the United Kingdom register at Companies House for “Labelheaded” returns no results, and South Africa’s Companies and Intellectual Property Commission has no public search interface, so no registration number, incorporation date, registered address or shareholder record has been obtained for it.
