Nigerian troops from Operation HADIN KAI and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team killed more than 21 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters and destroyed a camp in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria, on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Captain Mohammed Goni, acting military information officer for Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, said in a statement that the joint force included the ONSA Tactical Team and newly inducted troops of 226 Battalion deployed to Sector 4 in Adamawa State.

The operation in the Kopre Mountain general area followed intelligence on the activities of the fighters there. Troops moved through difficult terrain and attacked the camp in the early hours.

“The troops engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters, resulting in the death of over 21 terrorists, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. Following the operation, the troops took control of the area, dismantled the terrorist camp and destroyed its logistics infrastructure, further weakening the group’s ability to operate in the area.”

Items destroyed and recovered#

Goni said troops destroyed several motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) believed to have been used for logistics and mobility. Recovered items included:

  • AK-47 rifles
  • Magazines
  • A substantial quantity of 7.62mm Special ammunition

Rescue effort context#

Goni said the offensive was part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue victims held by armed groups, including people abducted from Mussa community in May and schoolchildren abducted from Lassa in June 2026.

He said the operation demonstrated the ability of joint forces to operate in difficult terrain, disrupt militant strongholds and deny them freedom of movement. He commended the troops and the ONSA Tactical Team for their gallantry, professionalism and coordination.

Goni said Operation HADIN KAI would sustain intelligence-driven operations across Nigeria’s North-East until abducted persons are located and rescued, while efforts continue to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
