Dotun Oladipo, a veteran Nigerian journalist and publisher of Eagle Online, has died at 56.
He fell ill suddenly at his office on Tuesday. Danlami Nmodu, President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), confirmed the death on Tuesday night.
“It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today,” Nmodu wrote on the guild’s WhatsApp platform.
Nkanu Egbe, General Secretary of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS), described the news as “devastating” on Wednesday morning.
“The Executive Committee will communicate further details regarding funeral arrangements, condolence visits, and interim leadership matters as they become available,” Egbe said.
Oladipo was a guest analyst on Journalist Hangout, a programme on Nigerian broadcaster TVC. At the time of his death, he was President of IMPCMS and Emeritus President of GOCOP.
Before founding Eagle Online, he worked with Nigerian Tribune and Nigerian Compass. He was also a former Politics Editor at PUNCH Newspapers.
