The debut album by South African rapper Bravo Le Roux, Igazi, Iinyembezi Nombilo, has passed 5 million streams on Spotify.
The 2023 release is the first album in the late Cape Town artist’s catalogue to reach that mark.
Album background
The title translates to “Blood, Sweat and Tears.” The record introduced Bravo Le Roux’s approach to Xhosa hip-hop and drew on his upbringing in Khayelitsha, as well as township life in Cape Town and the Eastern Cape.
His lyrics moved between isiXhosa, Afrikaans and English, and centred on everyday township experiences. The album documented his surroundings, experiences and perspective, and reached audiences beyond his hometown.
Key tracks and collaborators
- “Umntu” featuring Sjava earned gold certification.
- “Makhwenkwe” featured iFani.
- The album also included collaborations with YoungstaCPT and Digital Sangoma.
A deluxe edition was released in 2024.
Posthumous streaming growth
Bravo Le Roux died in Switzerland on 22 January 2026 at age 30. Since his death, listeners have continued to stream his catalogue.
Before the debut album, he had released projects including International Gubevu and built a profile through live performances and collaborations in South African hip-hop.
The album continues to attract listeners years after its release.
