South African rapper Ex-Global has named A-Reece the country’s best rapper and Nasty C its best hip-hop artist, separating rap technique from overall artistry.
The former Wrecking Crew member was asked on social media who he considers the best rapper in South Africa. He wrote: “The best rapper in South Africa is A-Reece and the best Hip Hop artist is Nasty C.”
The distinction
Ex-Global’s answer separates pure rap ability from broader hip-hop achievement. A-Reece, from Pretoria, has built a catalogue known for lyricism and storytelling, and has won multiple South African Hip Hop Awards for Lyricist of the Year.
Nasty C, from Durban, has combined lyricism with commercial success, international collaborations, performances and a global profile. His independent project Free won Best Hip Hop Album at the 2026 South African Music Awards.
Comparisons and context
Fans have often compared A-Reece and Nasty C on writing, catalogue, influence and impact. The two have not maintained a public feud and have appeared together on Stogie T’s “Four Horsemen.”
Ex-Global was part of Wrecking Crew during the collective’s run and has observed A-Reece’s development. He has recently spoken positively about Nasty C’s Free while offering critical observations about some of A-Reece’s recent work.
