Spotify Adds Toggle to Exclude Kids’ Music From Recommendations

Spotify has introduced a default-on toggle that removes children’s and family music from personalised recommendations and Wrapped results.

Spotify adds control to exclude kids’ music from personalised recommendations, Wrapped

Spotify has added a control that lets users keep children’s and family music out of their personalised recommendations, listening insights and annual Wrapped results.

The rollout began on 15 September 2026 for mobile devices worldwide. Both Free and Premium accounts have access, and the control is switched on by default, so children’s and family music continues to shape a listener’s taste profile until they turn it off.

What the setting covers#

The control applies to music such as:

  • songs from children’s animated films
  • family television programmes
  • nursery rhymes
  • other content created for younger listeners

When the setting is off, streams of children’s and family music no longer influence personalised features including Discover Weekly, Daily Mix and Wrapped. Spotify said the change is retrospective, so earlier listening to children’s music is also removed from relevant recommendations and Wrapped data.

“The new toggle is a one-tap feature […] set to include kids and family music in your taste profile by default, but you can turn it off anytime,” Spotify said. “Doing so quickly removes the influence of listening to kids and family music on your recommendations, keeping them focused on your taste.”

Listeners can still search for, stream and create playlists featuring children’s and family music after switching the control off. Spotify said it can take up to 48 hours for the change to appear in personalised recommendations.

Existing controls#

The new option builds on Spotify’s current tools for managing personalised recommendations. In 2025, the platform introduced the ability to exclude individual tracks from a taste profile, expanding an earlier option that allowed users to exclude entire playlists.

Spotify has also expanded managed accounts for younger listeners. These accounts give children a separate listening environment, personalised recommendations and their own Wrapped experience, while parents and guardians can manage content and other settings.

The update gives parents another way to separate their own listening profile from music played for children while retaining access to that music when needed.
