Sean Combs Countersues Lil Rod for Defamation Over Netflix Docuseries

U.S. music mogul Sean Combs has filed a defamation countersuit against Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, accusing the producer of stealing personal documentary footage and selling it to Netflix for the platform’s 50 Cent-produced docuseries.

In a complaint filed Tuesday, lawyers for Combs also alleged that Jones made multiple defamatory statements in the four-part series Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which premiered in December 2025 and recently received three Emmy nominations. An attorney for Jones did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jones first sued Combs for $30 million in February 2024, three months after Combs’ former partner Casandra “Cassie” Ventura filed a sexual abuse and sex trafficking lawsuit against him. Combs and Ventura settled that case for $20 million within 24 hours.

In his original lawsuit, Jones stated he was hired in late 2022 to produce music for Combs’ The Love Album: Off the Grid, released in November 2024. He claimed that during that period he witnessed a shooting, widespread drug use, and firearms kept in at least one of Combs’ homes. Jones further alleged he was drugged and sexually harassed by Combs. He repeated and expanded on those allegations in the Netflix documentary.

Combs has vehemently denied all of Jones’ claims. His legal team characterized Jones’ actions as:

“campaign for revenge and to profit from Mr. Combs.”
