Safaricom Expands PATA MORE Data Offers in Western Kenya

Kenya's Safaricom has expanded its PATA MORE campaign in Western and Nyanza with larger data bundles, lower M-PESA fees and new device offers.

Safaricom PATA MORE campaign launch in Siaya County, Kenya

Kenya’s Safaricom has expanded its PATA MORE campaign into the Greater Western and Nyanza regions, introducing larger data bundles, reduced fees on some small-value M-PESA transactions and new offers for device buyers and small businesses.

The regional launch took place at Misori Beach in Usenge, Siaya County, Kenya, bringing together Safaricom customers, business partners and local stakeholders as the campaign expanded beyond its national rollout. Fawzia Ali, Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, addressed customers at the event.

Data bundle changes

The revised data offers, priced in Kenyan shillings (KES), include:

  • 250MB for KES 20, valid for 24 hours, up from 150MB
  • 1.5GB for KES 99 for 24 hours, up from 1GB
  • A monthly KES 1,000 bundle with 21.5GB, more than double the previous 10GB

M-PESA and merchant fee adjustments

Safaricom has increased the amount customers can transact through Pochi Kadogo without paying a transaction fee. The free transaction limit has risen from KES 100 to KES 200.

For the next 90 days, transactions above KES 200 will attract fees capped at KES 50. Customers can also use Scan to Pay and Tap to Pay as part of the campaign’s push for faster digital payments.

Small businesses using Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods will benefit from a higher Buy Goods Kadogo threshold, which has increased from KES 200 to KES 500. The change allows merchants to retain more of their earnings on smaller transactions.

Device and business offers

The campaign also includes offers for customers seeking to upgrade their smartphones. Safaricom is bundling devices with data, voice services and device insurance, with the Neon Ultra 2 available from KES 55 per day and insurance included.

Drivers and riders are being targeted through Bundle Ya Dereva/Boda, which combines mobile connectivity with tools used in their daily work. The package includes complimentary access to ride-hailing applications and Google Maps, alongside Tuunza Mapato insurance.

Safaricom said the PATA MORE campaign is intended to give customers and businesses more value across its connectivity and digital services, including data, M-PESA, devices, fibre and business solutions. The launch in Western and Nyanza follows the campaign’s national launch and brings the enhanced offers to customers across the two regions.
