Nigeria’s Toyin Abraham threatens legal action over false reports

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has issued a cease-and-desist notice warning against circulating allegedly false and malicious reports about her.

Toyin Abraham

Toyin Abraham, a Nigerian actress working in Nollywood (Nigeria’s film industry), has threatened legal action against individuals and media platforms allegedly spreading false and malicious stories about her.

The cease-and-desist notice, dated November 5, was issued through her legal representatives. It warns bloggers, social media users, content creators and influencers against publishing or circulating unverified claims about her.

The notice was signed by her lawyer, Tope Salami, who described the publications as “untrue, misleading, unsubstantiated, and capable of damaging her professional personality, image, personal integrity, and general goodwill.” Abraham shared the notice on her X account on Thursday, calling on the public to read it carefully.

Demands to remove content#

Her lawyers urged those involved to stop publishing, reposting, endorsing or circulating alleged defamatory statements across social media platforms and other communication channels. They also demanded the removal of existing posts, videos, comments and other materials containing claims considered false or defamatory.

The legal representatives further cautioned against:

  • creating or promoting fabricated allegations and malicious insinuations
  • content intended to ridicule, harass or damage the actress’s reputation and business interests

Warning of possible proceedings#

The notice states that individuals who continue to circulate or amplify such claims after receiving it could face legal proceedings. Relevant publications, social media posts, comments, videos and other digital materials could be preserved as evidence for possible legal action.

The lawyer added that freedom of expression does not give anyone the right to spread falsehoods or unlawfully damage another person’s reputation.

Online discussion involving Funke Akindele#

The legal action comes amid renewed online discussion about Abraham and fellow Nollywood actress Funke Akindele. In October 2026, an alleged private audio conversation involving Abraham and a TikTok user identified as Bisgold circulated online, prompting reactions over comments reportedly made about Akindele.

The authenticity and full context of the recording have not been independently established. Abraham’s lawyers urged the public to exercise restraint, verify information before publication and ensure that future commentary about the actress is factual and supported by verifiable evidence.
