Josh2funny's on beHALF of JOSH album

Nigerian comedian and musician Josh2funny has released “on beHALF of JOSH”, his second music project in three years. He first became known in the late 2010s as one of Nigeria’s foremost skit makers, often pairing comedy with music, and had made earlier attempts at music before his comedy career took off.

Track overview#

The album opens with “International”, an Amapiano-fusion track featuring Ice Prince. Josh2funny uses kung fu allegories to describe his fighting spirit, while Ice Prince continues the theme of persistence. “Jembe” is more uptempo, built on log drums and shakers, and focuses on dance-floor energy rather than narrative.

On “Ndi Oma”, he sings directly to a love interest, and the Amapiano production uses more energetic drums to match the celebratory tone. “Ball” moves into Igbo hiplife, with Josh2funny rapping about a fast-lane lifestyle. “Story” remains in hiplife but shifts to gratitude for life and blessings.

“Sorochi” leans into gospel territory, with Josh2funny encouraging listeners to follow God. “Nmiri” uses an Afro-Swing/Garage template. On “Evelle”, guest vocalist Evelle sings from the perspective of a lover letting go and trusting her partner; the track’s chorus and bounce are prominent elements.

“Toxic” addresses the difficult side of love, including aggravating behavior from fans and loved ones, while Josh2funny maintains his resolve to keep peace. “Okoso” has a pulsating rhythm drawn from Makosa grooves, with acoustic guitar strings woven into the beat. “Undecided” features Mahdéy singing that love has no patience for indecision, while Josh2funny adds the perspective of a man who bears responsibility as a pacesetter.

“Badman Lesson” features MRGVN and Vas Angelov and focuses on staying grounded and avoiding licentious pleasures. Josh2funny includes a comedic aside about having fun that lightens the message. On “More”, he tells detractors he will not give them the satisfaction of seeing him fail.

“Watin I Go Do” pairs Josh2funny with RAYBEKAH on a duet about a lover who does not show appreciation. The contrasting vocal textures drive the track. “Enjoyment” follows a chord progression and theme of living large associated with Tekno.

Lady Zamar contributes a verse on a track that centers on surrendering to a lover’s whims, without the back-and-forth of the earlier duets. The album closes with “Egwu na da”, which returns to the Amapiano fusion sound of the opener and repeats the theme of being unstoppable.
