The Recording Industry of Kenya (RIKE) is a not-for-profit trade association for owners of sound recordings, registered in 2022 and formally launched in Nairobi on 9 October 2023. It is chaired by Eric Musyoka of Decimal Records, with a board drawn from major and independent labels including Sol Generation Records, Sony Music Entertainment Africa, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.
Unlike KAMP, RIKE does not collect royalties; by its own account it exists to protect producers’ collective interests through policy advocacy, content-protection and enforcement work, and administration of the International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) in Kenya in partnership with IFPI. It also runs music-chart certification and, in 2025, produced Sonic Nation, a documentary on Kenya’s recorded-music history backed by the British Council and IFPI.
RIKE’s membership fees are modest by design, a one-off KES 20,000 “Golden Circle” tier or an annual KES 1,200 fee, reflecting an association built to represent the full range of Kenyan producers rather than only the majors that back it.
