The Office Malgache du Droit d’Auteur (OMDA) is Madagascar’s national copyright office, created on 13 November 1984 and based in Antananarivo. It is the sole body authorised to collect and distribute copyright royalties in Madagascar and to defend the material and moral interests of Malagasy authors and rights-holders, domestically and abroad.
OMDA operates as a public establishment of industrial and commercial character (EPIC) with its own budget, governed under Madagascar’s 1994 law on literary and artistic property. It has been working to build out regional representatives to widen collection beyond the capital. Haja Ranjarivo took over as Director General in a handover effective 10 December 2025, and the office’s Faravohitra premises were affected by cyclone damage that year.
